Coldharbour Institute is a non-profit, 501(c)3, organization located in Gunnison, Colorado.
Coldharbour Institute's Mission: Coldharbour Institute promotes resilient living practices for a changing world through education, research, experimentation, partnerships, and the integration of environmental, social and economic solutions.
Coldharbour Institute was formed on November 20, 2014 as a result of merging two 501(c)(3) organizations, both located in Gunnison, Colorado: Coldharbour Sustainable Living Center and the Office of Resource Efficiency (ORE).
Originally, the Office of Resource Efficiency’s mission was to empower the Gunnison Valley to develop renewable energy sources, decrease carbon emissions, and increase access to local foods. These concepts are still a foundation for CI, but we have expanded our reach to include a more holistic approach to sustainable living. New programs include sustainable building techniques, localized agriculture, and increased partnerships for collaboration and education.
CI recently received a donation of land from local philanthropist, Butch Clark, who entrusted us with the Coldharbour Ranch. The ranch is 332 acres 8 miles east of Gunnison, of which 243.65 acres are under conservation easement. The property has three buildings: a farmhouse, a barn, and a loafing shed. All three buildings are of interest to restore for the future headquarters of CI.
