Photovoltaic systems generate electricity from the sun.
In the past few years PV systems have been installed at several Gunnison Valley locations:
The Gunnison High School and the Crested Butte Community School – GCEA provided solar PV arrays at each location – a 1.44 kW system at the Gunnison High School and 1.55 kW system at the Crested Butte Community School. These panels provide information about solar production at each location that can be used by GCEA to understand the potential for energy production in our area. The students at each of these schools can use data from the panels for their educational purposes.
The Town of Crested Butte Community Solar Garden – GCEA installed twenty 250-watt solar panels creating a 5 kW system. The solar panels are available for lease by GCEA members and production credits are assigned to each member participating in the program based on their share of the garden (for example, 2 of 20 panels or 1/10th of the total production). The data also helps GCEA understand solar PV system potential in the Crested Butte area and the electricity produced offsets electricity generated by non-renewable sources.
