GV Heat- Affordable Energy Resources!

10/6/2020

October is Energy Efficiency Month! GV-HEAT, Gunnison Valley’s energy efficiency program, wants to help you save money. Through GV-HEAT we connect households to resources that help them improve the energy efficiency, comfort, and affordability of housing in the Gunnison and Hinsdale Counties. These resources are available based on household income and can be used by both renters and homeowners.

But first, we would like to extend our huge Thank You to the Coldharbour Institute for the opportunity to be highlighted as a partner. We appreciate this so much!

You may be able to receive support to implement home improvements through these resources:
  • Energy Smart Colorado (ESC): This program, available to all households, will provide you with a home energy assessment and the ability to apply for rebates from local utilities for eligible home improvements. We are excited to announce a $100 discounted home energy assessment that would otherwise cost $350 to the next 10 Gunnison County Electric Association (GCEA) serviced households of homes no larger than 3,000 sqft. The offer is on a first come first serve basis. As part of the assessment, homeowners receive a free “quick-fix” kit valued at $25 for energy saving measures = such as LED lightbulbs or a radon-test kit. You can enroll for an assessment through ESC here.
  • Colorado Affordable Residential Energy (CARE): CARE is a great opportunity for local income-qualified residents to improve their homes comfort, safety, and efficiency of their homes. Through CARE we complete certified assessments of the home and then complete upgrade/retrofit work entirely free to the household. Energy efficiency upgrade work may include a furnace and boiler tune-up and safety check, LED light bulbs, programmable thermostats, efficient shower heads and sink aerators, air sealing, and insulation upgrades.
  • Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP): Through the WAP program, income-qualified households will be provided with a free home energy assessment and eligible upgrades to improve your home’s comfort, safety, and efficiency through Housing Resources of Western Colorado (HRWC) and facilitated by GV-HEAT.

“With the cold weather approaching, this is the time to find out how to make your home more energy efficient.” said Gesa Michel, GV-HEAT Coordinator with the GVRHA. “Take advantage of enrollment for all of these programs today!”
